If you’ve seen articles claiming there’s an HST/GST payment coming on February 4, February 16, or any other date in February 2026, this information is false.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) issues GST/HST credit payments quarterly—not monthly. There is no GST payment scheduled for February 2026.

Official GST/HST Credit Payment Dates for 2026

According to the Canada Revenue Agency’s official payment schedule, GST/HST credit payments in 2026 are issued on these dates only:

    • Payment Date: January 5, 2026 – Status: ✓ Issued
    • Payment Date: April 2, 2026 – Status: Upcoming
    • Payment Date: July 3, 2026 – Status: Upcoming
    • Payment Date: October 5, 2026 – Status: Upcoming

There is no February payment. There has never been a February GST payment. The GST/HST credit has been a quarterly benefit since it was introduced in 1991.

Why This Misinformation Is Spreading

Several websites have published articles claiming GST payments are coming in February 2026.

Some claim dates like February 4 or February 16. These claims appear to confuse the GST/HST credit with other benefits that do have February payment dates.

Benefits that ARE paid in February 2026 include:

Benefit February 2026 Date

    • Canada Child Benefit (CCB) – February 20, 2026
    • Canada Pension Plan (CPP) – February 25, 2026
    • Old Age Security (OAS) – February 25, 2026
    • Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) – February 10, 2026
    • Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) – February 19, 2026
    • GST/HST Credit – NO FEBRUARY PAYMENT

The Canada Revenue Agency has issued a direct warning on its official benefits page about false claims regarding government payments:

“There is disinformation online that the Government of Canada is issuing a new financial relief payment of $2,000 by direct deposit. There is no new financial relief payment. To avoid disinformation about government benefits or payments, refer to official Government of Canada web pages.”

How the GST/HST Credit Actually Works

The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment designed to help individuals and families with low or modest incomes offset the GST or HST they pay on purchases.

Key facts:

    • Payments are issued 4 times per year (January, April, July, October)
    • The benefit year runs from July to June
    • January and April 2026 payments are based on your 2024 tax return
    • July and October 2026 payments will be based on your 2025 tax return
    • You do not need to apply—eligibility is determined automatically when you file taxes

Maximum annual GST/HST credit amounts (July 2025 to June 2026):

    • Recipient Type: Maximum Annual Amount
    • Single individual: $533
    • Married/common-law couple: $698
    • Per child under 19: $184 additional

These amounts are divided into four quarterly payments.

A single individual receiving the maximum would get approximately $133 per quarter—not the inflated figures of $628, $740, or higher that some websites claim.
