British Columbia has reaffirmed its BC Skills Immigration pathway as a key route to permanent residence in 2026, while continuing to emphasize targeted selection, higher economic impact, and employer-backed applicants under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).

The Skills Immigration stream remains one of the province’s primary tools for attracting workers who can immediately support B.C.’s labour market, particularly in high-demand and high-wage occupations.

What Is BC Skills Immigration?

BC Skills Immigration is a worker-focused provincial nomination stream designed for foreign nationals who have a valid job offer from a British Columbia employer. Successful applicants receive a provincial nomination, allowing them to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal system.

The program targets individuals who are already contributing — or are expected to contribute quickly — to B.C.’s economy.

Entry Level and Semi-Skilled

Each stream has its own eligibility rules, but most require:

A full-time, permanent job offer from a B.C. employer

How the Selection Process Works

Most Skills Immigration applicants must first register online through the BC PNP system. Registration is free and places candidates into a selection pool.

The province then conducts periodic invitation rounds, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) based on:

Occupation
Work location
Economic impact
Labour market needs

In early 2026, British Columbia introduced more targeted draws, prioritizing candidates expected to deliver high economic impact, rather than relying solely on score cut-offs.

Application Fees and Processing

As of 2026:

Registration: No fee
Application fee (after ITA): CAD $1,750
Request for review: CAD $500

Only applicants who receive an ITA can submit a full application and pay the processing fee.

What Happens After Nomination?

Applicants approved by the province receive a BC provincial nomination, which significantly strengthens their permanent residence application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
