Updated July 2026. The PEI PNP Express Entry stream lets Prince Edward Island nominate candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry pool, giving them 600 additional CRS points and effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
Who Qualifies
To be eligible, you must first qualify for one of the three federal economic immigration programs managed through Express Entry: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class. On top of that, PEI generally looks for:
- An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for any education completed outside Canada
- Proof of language ability through an approved test (IELTS or CELPIP)
- At least 1 year of continuous full-time skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3)
How the Selection Process Works
The stream runs on an Expression of Interest (EOI) system, similar in spirit to Express Entry itself. Once you meet the eligibility criteria, you submit a profile into PEI’s candidate pool. Every profile is scored against PEI’s own Express Entry Ranking System, using six selection factors: age, language, education, work experience, employment, and adaptability, for a maximum of 100 points.
The highest-ranked candidates in the pool are invited to submit a full application in one of PEI’s periodic draws.
Why It’s Worth Pursuing
A PEI nomination adds 600 points to your federal CRS score — enough to push almost any candidate above the cutoff in a subsequent Express Entry round. If you’re already Express Entry-eligible but sitting below the general cutoff, a provincial nomination stream like this one is often the fastest realistic path to an ITA.
How to Apply
- Create (or already have) a federal Express Entry profile
- Confirm you meet PEI’s stream-specific requirements
- Submit an Expression of Interest to PEI’s PNP pool
- If invited, submit your full PEI PNP application within the deadline given
- Once nominated, update your Express Entry profile with the nomination — your CRS score updates automatically
