Canada Passport Rules Changing in April 2026: What You Need to Know
As of April 2026, Canada is implementing new passport rules that will impact fees and processing times for applicants.
Two key policy changes are set to take effect, affecting how much Canadians pay for passports and introducing a money-back guarantee for delayed applications.
These changes will have significant implications for individuals and families planning international travel in 2026 and beyond.
Canada Passport Fee Increase
For the first time in over a decade, passport fees in Canada will see an increase starting March 31, 2026.
The adjustment, reflecting inflation and production costs, will apply to all standard passport applications submitted after this date.
-
- Old Fee (Before March 31)
-
- New Fee (March 31+)
-
- 10-Year Adult Passport (In Canada): $160.00 → $163.50 (+$3.50)
-
- 5-Year Adult Passport (In Canada): $120.00 → $122.50 (+$2.50)
-
- Child Passport 5-Year (In Canada): $57.00 → $58.50 (+$1.50)
-
- 10-Year Adult Passport (Outside Canada): $260.00 → $266.25 (+$6.25)

The new fee structure, although seemingly minor, could lead to increased costs for families renewing multiple passports over time.
Moreover, starting in 2026, passport fees will be adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index to keep pace with inflation.
