Alberta Opportunity Stream 2025 Guide

The Alberta Opportunity Stream is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) pathway for temporary foreign workers who live and work full-time in Alberta. If you hold a valid work permit backed by a positive LMIA or an approved LMIA-exempt permit—and you have a full-time job offer in an eligible occupation—you can apply for a provincial nomination to pursue permanent residence. This streamlined, online process helps Alberta address local labour needs by nominating skilled workers already contributing to the province’s economy

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, you must:

1. Valid Work Permit

Hold a full-time work permit based on a positive LMIA or an accepted LMIA-exempt permit when you apply and when Alberta assesses your file

2. Job Offer

Maintain a genuine full-time (≥30 hrs/week), non-seasonal job offer or contract from an Alberta employer in your current occupation, meeting AAIP work permit and employer requirements

3. Work Experience

Accumulate at least 6 months of full-time work in Alberta if you hold a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), or 12 months if you hold another type of permit

4. Education

Possess a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent; PGWP holders satisfy this via their Alberta education credentials

5. Language

Demonstrate Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 or higher in all four skills on an approved English or French test

6. Occupation Eligibility

Work in a National Occupational Classification (NOC 2021) occupation that is not on the ineligible list
