Express Entry Competition May Be Easing as High-Score Profiles Drop (March 2026)

Canadianow- Editor

Recent Express Entry pool data suggests that competition at the top of the CRS range may be easing, mainly because of several large draws in late February and early March 2026. This matters if you are already in the pool and watching how many candidates sit above you.

At the same time, pool numbers change often, and IRCC’s pool snapshots do not instantly reflect every draw. So this trend should be treated as a signal, not a guarantee.

What changed in the Express Entry pool (Feb 15 to Mar 1)

According to analysis published March 6, 2026, the pool fell by 3,161 profiles between February 15 and March 1 (latest snapshot used). The biggest drop was in the 501–600 CRS range, down by 2,528 profiles (from 16,559 to 14,031).

A separate pool breakdown (based on an IRCC update date of March 1, 2026) also shows:

  • Total candidates: 232,534

  • 501–600 CRS range: 14,031

Why this matters for CRS competition

The 501–600 CRS band is important because it often overlaps with candidates most likely to receive invitations in certain draw types (depending on IRCC’s selection). If that group shrinks, it can reduce “pressure” at the top of the pool.

CIC News estimates that after the March 2–5 draws, the number of candidates in the 501–600 range may be close to 10,000—but that is an estimate because new profiles also enter the pool.

Draws not counted in the March 1 pool snapshot (March 2–5)

The March 1 pool snapshot does not include the results of draws held March 2 to March 5, which issued 10,014 ITAs in total, including:

  • March 4: French-language proficiency (5,500 ITAs, CRS 397)

  • March 3: Canadian Experience Class (4,000 ITAs, CRS 508)

  • March 2: PNP (264 ITAs, CRS 710)

  • March 5: Senior managers with Canadian work experience (250 ITAs, CRS 429)

IRCC has also confirmed 2026 category direction, including new categories such as researchers and senior managers with Canadian work experience, and continued focus on French-language selection.

Internal guidance for candidates

If you are in Express Entry now:

  • Don’t rely on one week of trends. Cut-offs can move up or down depending on draw size and type.

  • If your CRS is close to recent cut-offs, review what changes are realistic for you (language results, Canadian work experience, valid job offer, education assessment updates).

  • If you’re not sure how draws work, review Canadianow’s Canada Express Entry guide and the IRCC explanation pages before making decisions.

FAQ

Does “competition easing” mean lower CRS cut-offs are guaranteed?
No. It only suggests fewer top-scoring profiles in certain ranges at one point in time. Future draws can change quickly.

Why do pool numbers and draw results sometimes look mismatched?
Pool “distribution” is a snapshot taken before a draw, and it may not immediately reflect draws that happened after the snapshot date.

Are category-based draws part of IRCC’s 2026 plan?
Yes. IRCC has published a 2026 categories announcement and continues to use category-based selection alongside other draw types.

Reality check

This update is a trend signal, not a promise. Even if the number of high-CRS profiles drops, your outcome still depends on your eligibility, your CRS score, and the draw types IRCC chooses. If you are planning tests or paying for documents, make sure they fit your overall PR plan—not just one news cycle.
