Updated July 2026. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) Farm Stream is for people with farm management experience who want to invest in and operate a primary production farming business in Alberta.
Core Eligibility Requirements
- Demonstrated farm management skills
- Ability to invest a minimum of $500,000 CAD in equity into a primary production farming business in Alberta
- Proof of a minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD, or confirmation you can access an equivalent amount from other sources
- A documented business plan detailing your investment, submitted with your application
Business Plan Review
Your proposed business plan is reviewed by Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation to confirm the farming operation aligns with Alberta’s farming industry requirements — this isn’t a formality; a weak or unrealistic plan can result in refusal regardless of your financial qualifications.
Who Is Not Eligible
- You already hold an active, unexpired AAIP nomination (or one eligible for extension) under another stream — you can only hold one AAIP Nomination Certificate
- You were previously told you’re ineligible to reapply for a specified period, and that period hasn’t passed
- You have a removal order from IRCC or CBSA against you
- You’re a foreign national in Canada without valid temporary resident status
Language Requirements
There’s no mandatory language test score at the provincial nomination stage for the Farm Stream specifically, but a minimum CLB 5 is recommended for realistic success, and language proficiency will be required at the federal permanent residence stage regardless.
