Canada holds first Express Entry draw under new category

Updated July 2026. On March 5, 2026, IRCC held its first-ever Express Entry draw under the Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category — one of the new category-based selection priorities introduced for 2026. Here’s what happened, and who this category actually covers.

Draw Details

  • Date: March 5, 2026
  • Category: Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience
  • Invitations issued: 250
  • CRS cutoff: 429
  • Tie-break rule: August 19, 2025 at 3:10 p.m. UTC

Eligible Senior Manager Occupations

This category targets specific NOC codes, not the general concept of “being a manager”:

  • 00012 — Senior managers, financial, communications, and other business services
  • 00013 — Senior managers, health, education, social and community services, and membership organizations
  • 00014 — Senior managers, trade, broadcasting, and other services
  • 00015 — Senior managers, construction, transportation, production, and utilities

Your NOC code has to match your actual job duties, not just your title — having “manager” in your job title doesn’t automatically qualify you for this category.

If You Think You Might Qualify

  • Confirm your NOC 2021 code genuinely matches your actual duties, not just your job title
  • Keep your Express Entry profile accurate and current — work history, language scores, education
  • Watch for future draws in this category, since cutoffs can shift quickly depending on pool size

Important Limits to Understand

A category matching your occupation isn’t a promise of an invitation, let alone permanent residence. Outcomes still depend on your CRS score, complete documentation, and whether IRCC runs additional rounds for this category going forward — there’s no guarantee of frequency or that this category continues at the same pace all year. If your CRS isn’t currently competitive, a broader strategy — language test improvements, additional work experience, or a provincial nomination — may serve you better than waiting for this specific category to reappear.
