Updated July 2026. The Canada Revenue Agency is running an ongoing recruitment pool for entry-level SP-04 Taxpayer Services Agents across dozens of locations in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Atlantic Canada. Because this is an “anticipatory” hiring process — the CRA builds a pool of qualified candidates it draws from as vacancies open — the exact number of active locations shifts over time, but the eligibility rules and pay scale stay consistent.
Who Can Apply
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or those otherwise authorized to work in Canada
- A secondary school diploma (no post-secondary education required)
- Basic customer or client service experience
- Willingness to work onsite at least 3 days per week
No prior government experience is required. Veterans get first priority, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Pay and Benefits
SP-04 Taxpayer Services Agent roles start at roughly $33.41 per hour, with an annual salary range around $65,000 to $74,000 depending on region and step. Positions come with paid training, the federal defined-benefit pension plan, and standard federal employee benefits.
What the Job Involves
- Answering phone inquiries from Canadians about their taxes and benefits
- Reviewing taxpayer account information
- Explaining CRA programs and services
- Researching and resolving taxpayer questions
Where Positions Are Located
Recruitment spans three regions: Ontario (including Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, and other cities), the Western region (Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta; Surrey in BC), and the Atlantic region (locations across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and PEI). Because this is a rolling recruitment pool, the specific list of open locations changes — check the CRA’s own careers portal for the current list before applying.
How to Apply
Applications go through the CRA Careers portal. Because this is an anticipatory pool, assessments often begin as soon as applications are received rather than after a fixed deadline — applying early generally improves your chances.
