Who counts in my family size?
Count yourself, your spouse or partner, your and your partner’s dependent children, every parent or grandparent you are inviting, anyone you sponsored whose undertaking is still in effect, and anyone you already host on a valid Super Visa.
| Host | 1 |
| Spouse | 1 |
| Two children | 2 |
| Two parents invited | 2 |
| Family size, minimum income | 6, $72,560 |
The parents or grandparents you invite count in the family size. Leaving them out is the most common mistake.
What are the two ways to meet the income requirement?
Either your household income meets the minimum in one of the two tax years before you apply, or it reaches at least 75% of the minimum and the invited parent’s own income makes up the rest.
- Option 1: your income, plus your co-signing spouse’s, meets the minimum in either of the 2 tax years before you apply.
- Option 2: your household income in the year before you apply is at least 75% of the minimum, and the invited parent’s or grandparent’s income covers the rest.
- Siblings and other relatives cannot co-sign.

A signed letter of invitation, at least one year of private health insurance from a Canadian or approved foreign insurer, and an immigration medical exam. Parents and grandparents must apply from outside Canada.

Questions
Super Visa income FAQ
Can my parents’ income count?
Yes, under option 2, if your own household income for last year is at least 75% of the minimum.
Do the parents I invite count in my family size?
Yes. Every parent or grandparent you invite is counted, along with your spouse, dependent children and anyone else you support.
Is the Super Visa income the same as for sponsoring parents?
No. Sponsoring parents and grandparents for permanent residence uses a higher threshold, the minimum necessary income plus 30%, over three years.
