Key facts
- March 1, 2027: RRSP deadline for 2026 deductions.
- April 30, 2027: file and pay your 2026 return.
- June 15, 2027: filing deadline if you or your spouse are self-employed; payment is still due April 30.
- Instalments: March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15.
Do self-employed people have until June 15 to pay?
No. You have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is due April 30, and interest starts on May 1.
If you expect to owe, pay an estimate by April 30, then file the full return by June 15.
Why is the RRSP deadline in March?
Contributions made in the first 60 days of a year can be deducted on the previous year’s return. For 2026, that window closes on March 1, 2027.
Newcomers usually have no RRSP room in their first year; see the TFSA, RRSP and FHSA room calculator.
Do newcomers need to file even with no income?
If you owe nothing, filing is not required by law, but it is how you receive the CCB, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and provincial credits. Most newcomers should file.

Deadlines follow the CRA’s published rules for each tax year. Confirm on the CRA site, especially if a date falls on a weekend or holiday.
