Updated July 2026. Saskatchewan’s SINP Entrepreneur and Farm Categories are for people who want to buy or start a business — or a farm — in the province. Here’s how each works.
Entrepreneur Category
This route is for experienced business owners or senior managers who want to establish or purchase a business in Saskatchewan, actively manage it, and create jobs for Saskatchewan residents. You’ll generally need relevant business experience, a minimum net worth, and a viable business plan reviewed by the SINP before receiving an Approval Letter and, later, a nomination once you’ve established your business.
Farm Owner/Operator Category
For entrepreneurs with real farming experience who want to acquire and operate a farm in Saskatchewan.
Main Stream Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of farm operation experience
- A minimum score of 55 points on the SINP’s Intent Grid for this category
Young Farmer Stream (a Sub-Category)
- Under age 40, with a minimum of 3 years of farm operation experience
- A minimum net worth of $300,000 CAD, verified by a professional third party recognized by the SINP
- Willingness to invest at least $150,000 CAD, detailed in a Commercial Farming Proposal
- At least 33.3% ownership share in the business (waived for investments of $1 million CAD or more)
- Your spouse or common-law partner must have the skills, education, or experience to help operate the farm
The Exploratory Visit
Farm category applicants must make an exploratory visit to Saskatchewan of at least 5 business days, meeting with relevant service professionals and compiling an Exploratory Visit Report to submit with the application. This visit must happen within the year before applying.
Fees
The farm category requires a $2,500 CAD non-refundable processing fee and a $75,000 CAD refundable Good Faith Deposit.
